Thankful for today

It was SO pretty today.  It was the calm after the storm as last night was pretty scary.  It's a little unsettling to be awakened at 3:00am by the tornado siren in your backyard (which is the Fire Station behind your house).  Thank the Lord, we and all of our friends and family were safe!  And thank the Lord for the gorgeous day we had!

There is nothing like playing outside with your little man on a day like today.  We had a great time together and even got to go to the park with our friends Barbie and Julia!  It might be "winter" but we are loving this springlike weather.

Days like today really make me realize how much I have to be thankful for as a mom!  Recently, I find myself getting frustrated and worn out by the "nagging" I do as a mom.  Larkin is very mischievous and doesn't like to hear "NO" unless he's the one saying it.  From what I hear I was like that too. :)  So there are days where I feel like all I did was discipline him and correct him.  I am reminded that is definitely part of my job as a mom.  However, I need to focus the most on each minute I have with Larkin and making the most of them, challenging or easy.  I thank God for Larkin and for these fun memories of raising him!

Enjoying a walk through the neighborhood.

Larkin LOVES the tunnel!

 Fist Bump, Julia!

 High Five, Larkin!

Larkin is a little daring on the slide!

Looking Back: Thanksgiving

Please bear with me...I am feeling on the verge of a blogging frenzy but will need to go back a bit to get everything in.  I just uploaded tons of pictures from my camera and want to post them ALL!  I may not be good at blogging or scrapbooking, but I take a lot of pictures to do something with...someday. :)

So, starting with Thanksgiving:

This year we went to Grayton Beach with my family.  This is such a special time as we see family that we only get to see once a year!  We always have a great time together but with everyone so spread out we can only get together at Thanksgiving.  There were several cousins we missed this year but I did get a special visit in with one of those special families, Sarah and Ryan and baby George!

We got to meet sweet George!!!

Our visit with Sarah and Ryan was way too short.  Good thing they will be at Thanksgiving next year so we can spend a lot more time with these three!

The rest of Thanksgiving week great!  We definitely got to relax at the beach and it was nice having a lot of help with little man!  He is SO on the move, so we had several eyes on him at all times.

Here are a few pictures from our week at the beach:

Okay...this wasn't from the beach but ended up in that folder...Larkin LOVES playing in his tunnel.

 The Fam...minus a few. :(

Sweet Daddy-Son moment.  I'm glad I caught this one.

 AMAZING sunset!

Victorious over getting the visor!

Glued to Football...and they've corrupted Larkin.

Oops!  You caught me.  Shaking the raisins out of the cup, then cleaning them up,
to do it over and over again.

 Caught me again...

And again...

This was while we were unpacking from the trip.  He is a mischievous little guy!

What has brought me out of my blogging hiatus?

THIS....

Yep.  That's right.  POOP in the bed!  It's okay for some of you readers to be totally grossed out...I WAS!  No dirty diaper can prepare you for this.  There's just something extra disgusting about poop being outside the diaper.

The story is.... Larkin had been pretty fussy and seemed to maybe have a little tummy ache earlier in the day.  I had fought with him to even get his p.j.'s off so I decided to forfeit with trying to put more clothes on him.  He went down for a nap in just his diaper...mistake I now know.

When he woke up he was playful and just making his usual waking up noises.  Then...he got really quiet for a few minutes.  I usually give him some time to play (and take care of potty business if needed) but the silence was a little worrisome.  I went in to see if he had gone back to sleep and much to my surprise...

He seemed pretty confused by this foreign object in his bed, even though he was the one that had taken it out of his diaper.  Thankfully he wasn't too interested!  So to the bath he went!  I was speechless the whole time.  I might have laughed a little, and said "oh crap" a few times... no pun intended.  I of course didn't want to encourage this but I could tell Larkin felt a little bit of pride as I giggled.

Lessons learned:

1. Keep Larkin clothed during bedtimes.  So far, he hasn't tried taking his clothes off so let's hope that habit never starts!

2. Don't give Larkin too much unsupervised alone time, even if he is in a safe place like his bed.  Keep an eye on his activity!

I hope to get back into the blogging world more regularly!  If I were to make New Year's resolutions, that would be one of them.
